A short lesson in music production. Quite interesting and enlightening. If you've ever experienced 'ear fatigue' while listening to music, this is probably why. And probably why Kevin can listen to Bob Marley and The Rolling Stones for hours on end.

I am not sure where you sit on the loudness war - but I despise the tactic myself - and crustily agree that many new albums do sound like crap.
Additionally Nine Inch Nails has won the "loud" portion of music - music cannot get louder - so maybe artists could consider other textures.
As a side note - the ear also tires of repetitivve beat - probably why the average rap aficianado plays 30 seconds of a "dope beat" and then fast forwards. Public enemy is interesting because even though the beat is fairly steady the rest of the textures are ever changing.
Is this true - do interesting drummers make the band? Not sure - but name me a great band without a great drummer...
Maybe this is why the Rolling Stones are infinitely better than the beatles.
I found that very interesting. Thanks Jim.
Kev:
Depeche Mode had a great drummer, except during power outages ...
"Infinitely" better ??? Dude, why not throw in a few "always" capped off by several "nevers" ...

Damn - whenever I am so full of myself and my opinions I start mixing my metaphors and inflating my hyperbole and oxying my morons and contradicting my terms
I will always promist to never do that again....
At the V101 soul jam there were drum machines and pre-recorded music galore - not with Midnight Star, of course
And perhaps this is why the bar was so busy
BTW - I just "scored" Dolly Parton covering Stairway to Heaven - damned fine Mandolins!
