My New Year's resolution

This is a true gem. I urge you to hear it out, at least until Spirit of Radio kicks in. There's actually a few more available like it, if you dare.

What takes this one over the top though, are the notes left in the "About This Video" section on YouTube. Apparently, Geddy Lee does not rank in his Top 10 male rock vocalists. I'd love to have heard the debate over Ian Gillam and Brad Delp for the 10th spot.

This has inspired me to make a New Year's resolution: I will hereby ensure each of my Top 10 Rock Musician lists are complete and meticulously maintained throughout the year. I realize it's been over 20 years or so since my last update. My only dilemma now is whether or not to include separate categories for both Pop and Rock vocalists (male and female ranked separately, of course) or just say to hell with it and lump them into one Pop/Rock category. I do not want to come across and presumptuous and careless by combining, but it does take a lot of time to create and maintain these things. Any suggestions?

Jim -

The fact that your resolution has nothing to do with diet, exercise, career, finances or family - but instead a firm "see it through" approach to writing comprehensive music lists shoots you right to the top of the sought after "Sacster Lummox of the Year" - I might go so far as to say we might as well close the polls now.

In light of your rock vs. pop dilemma - my thoughts go to Cormac McCarthy's recent quote in Rolling Stone - "You can't write good poetry unless you have a soul to express"

So, my dear friend, the answer to your question of whether we need to split po / rock vocalists is answered in the following question...very Socratic don't you agree?

Is Jani Lane a pop singer or a rock singer? The line is certainly blurry for me.

Jim - Slow down on the resolutions. Rome was not built in a day.

Let me get the first 2 going for you:

Freddie Mercury
Mick Jagger

Well, gosh, yes, I've definitely stumbled out of the gate here. To my defense, I've been pre-occupied with studying and analyzing the many union voter guides that have graced my mailbox. Thank goodness for these - now I can't go wrong at the polls and I'm prepared for Monster Truck Madness!

OK, here's my first Top 10 list -
"Top 10 Male Rock Singers We Can Be Thankful Have Not Been Asked to Sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl"

10. Neil Young
9. Paul Stanley
8. Mick Jagger
7. Alice Cooper
6. Iggy Pop
5. Lou Reed
4. Gene Simmons
3. Lemmy
2. Bob Dylan
1. Ringo Starr
